Winter Sports Update
SHR Students and Families,

Today the NJSIAA released the latest guidance for the upcoming winter season. With Covid numbers increasing the state has decided to delay the start of winter sports. Below you will find a snapshot of the information provided to us today.

Basketball and Bowling Start Dates:
First practice will be January 11th with games beginning on January 26th. The season will conclude on March 6th.
Teams will be allowed a max of 15 games. No games against out-of-state opponents will be permitted.
The NJSIAA will not sponsor post-season play this winter.
Spectators will be prohibited during the winter season. High school home games will be live streamed (more information to come).
Middle School Basketball:
Our previously announced plan will remain in place allowing middle school boys and girls to practice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Games will not be played at the middle school level.

Our hope is to continue to provide athletics for our students to the greatest extent possible. We understand this winter season will look and feel different for our students and families. However, our goal continues to be simply to play games. This goal is only achievable with the cooperation of all parties and we remind everyone to adhere to CDC guidelines in order for us to allow our children the opportunity to participate in the sports they enjoy.

The State of NJ is now requiring a new Opioid Use and Misuse Form to be read & signed by BOTH the student athlete & his/her parent guardian PRIOR to participation in sports going forward.

Beginning 8/1/19, all athletes will be required to view an Opioid Awareness Video on the NJSIAA website once per year and complete an acknowledgement form.  Athletes who play multiple sports will be required to sign each season - See info here
