Mr. Adam Wright is South Hunterdon Regional High School's new principal. Mr. Wright comes to South from Manville High School where he served as the principal since July 1, 2021. His other administrative experience includes serving as a Vice Principal at DelVal High School from 2013 - 2021, and working as the Supervisor of Social Studies in the Montgomery School District. Before becoming an administrator, Mr. Wright was a high school social studies teacher in the Montgomery School District.

Mr. Wright carries with him an interesting personal history as he did not begin his professional career in education, but followed his heart toward a career that brought joy and fulfillment. We caught up with him to learn more about his goals and expectations for his first year as an Eagle.

Q: What are you looking forward to in your first year as principal at SHRHS? What role do you hope to play in the SH community?

AW: As Principal, I view my role as a unique balancing act that requires flexibility, vision, and attentiveness. While the position carries a wide range of responsibilities, my highest priority is to respond to the needs of our school community as they arise, whether that means supporting students, collaborating with staff, or engaging with families. Just as importantly, I am deeply committed to creating an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, while also ensuring that our faculty and staff feel supported and valued. Together, these efforts strengthen not only our school but also the broader community we serve.

Q: What was your path to education?

AW: My story is a little different than most of my colleagues. I never really intended to get into education. I received my degree in Criminal Justice and intended to go into law enforcement. I ended up in mortgage banking, which was just not for me. I have family that were teachers/administrators, and that prompted my career change and mindset.

Q: How do you define student success in the classroom?

AW: Growth. Each student arrives each day at a different point in their journey, and my goal as an educator is to see continual progress. Earlier in my career, when I served as a football and wrestling coach, I often reminded my student-athletes that they should leave practice better than when they arrived. That same message applies to the classroom and to school as a whole, the pursuit of steady growth each and every day.

Q: What continues to inspire or motivate you as an educator and administrator?

AW: I truly value being in classrooms and witnessing high-quality instruction, along with those remarkable “light bulb” moments when learning comes to life for students. One of the most meaningful experiences of my career was the privilege of creating opportunities for students to share in my passion for history. Today, I find great joy in seeing our teachers experience that same fulfillment as they inspire their students.

Our students are my greatest source of inspiration and motivation. Each one brings a unique story and perspective to our school each day. Having the privilege to work alongside them and contribute to their journey is both humbling and deeply rewarding.

Q: What is your first impression of SH and what makes it special or unique?

AW: This is such a wonderful place to be. There are so many amazing opportunities here and things that make SH so different in a positive way. I come from a small district, as I was the Principal of Manville High School for the last several years. We are half the size, but we offer a similar number of opportunities as many larger high schools both in our county and the state, as a whole. We truly are focused on giving the best of everything to our students.

School of Performing Arts

South Hunterdon is partnering with Hunterdon County Polytech to develop a School of Performing Arts at our High School. Students from our school district along with ones from Hunterdon County and even outside of Hunterdon County can apply to audition for the program which will launch in September 2026.

While programs like do exist at other schools in Hunterdon County, what sets South Hunterdon apart is the mission to strategically prepare students for a performing arts career or college program after graduating high school.
