Congratulations to the 2025 SHRHS National Honor Society Inductees! Sixteen students were inducted into NHS on March 5th, including ESL students Diana Garcia Guzman and Annette Gonzalez Garcia.

"
These incredible ESL students, in just a little over a year at our school, have become the FIRST newcomers to be inducted into the prestigious National Honor Society! Their intelligence, bravery, and determination to achieve academic excellence inspire us all," said ESL teacher Mr. David Gardiner.

Each new inductee chose one influential teacher to honor and celebrate as part of their induction ceremony. Diana and Annette both chose Mr. Gardiner and shared the following sentiments about him:

"Your passion for teaching and your willingness to help me understand complex subjects has been fundamental to my academic and personal growth. Your words of encouragement and your willingness to help me with my doubts have strengthened my confidence and my academic performance."

-Diana Garcia Guzman

"I appreciate your dedication and patience. You made learning more enjoyable and memorable like the first time you taught us to speak English when we arrived at school. You were always there at any time and you have always been very attentive to all of us. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for us."

-Annette Gonzalez Garcia

NHS inductees gave thanks to their Spanish teacher, Mrs. Ruvolo, at their induction ceremony:

"One day, earlier this year during flex, Ms Ruvolo helped me do research for colleges and helped me understand how my credits would transfer. This meant a lot to me because it was a completely unnecessary thing for her to do, but without those twenty minutes of talking and researching with her, I would have had a lot of trouble finding the information I needed."
- Ian Harbison

"Her passion for the language has not only inspired me but also ignited a deep interest in continuing my studies in Spanish, something I might not have done without her guidance and encouragement."
- Landon Katz

"Your classes are living proof that learning can be both fun and effective when approached with a positive attitude and creativity. You’ve shown me that education is not just about memorizing facts or passing tests but about gaining confidence and inspiration to keep going, no matter the challenge."
- Rosemary Cooper

Fairgrown Farm

Fairgrown Farm visited our high school agriculture class to share their story of how two brothers started the farm as a summer project and grew it into a 500 person CSA. The presentation included information about sustainable growing practices, volunteer opportunities, and advice for students on starting their own projects and getting involved in local agriculture.

Support for Students

"Coming up for Air"

At the end of February, SHR 8th grade students participated in a presentation called “Coming Up For Air” where the focus was to discuss mental health issues and signs of suicide. The session was facilitated by Tricia Baker from Attitudes in Reverse (AIRS).

South Hunterdon has partnered with this organization over the last several years for our Therapy Dog Program. All of our counselors also participated in the program this morning and are available for any students who may need additional support.

This program was free as it was funded by a grant that AIRS received from Northfield Bank. It aligns with our Strategic Plan goal #3 Health and Wellness for Students and Staff.

Project Prom

Project Prom is an initiative to ensure that every student has the opportunity to enjoy their special night! We are collecting clean and gently used prom dresses and formal shoes for students in need. All sizes and styles welcome! (Dresses and shoes should be clean and in good condition).

Your generosity can make a huge difference in helping all students experience this memorable event. Please drop off donations at the high school by March 31st, so students have time to browse before prom on May 16th

Thank you in advance for your kindness and support! Please contact dana.keck@shrsd.org with any questions or concerns.
