Voter Registration Drive

The library service club, "The Library Squad," worked with the League of Women Voters to offer a voter registration drive in early October. They set up tables outside the cafeteria to register students (and staff). They also helped with change of address and show people how to check their voter status.

Library Squad members who registered student voters included Iris Li, Lucas Gravier, and Yeseneia Guerra. The project registered 11 new voters, with 9 more taking forms home to complete.

Music with a Mission

The Music With a Mission Concert is an opportunity for our High School Band and Chorus students to give back to the community that does so much to support them. The SHR Music Department will once again be partnering with local Social Services organization, Fisherman's Mark. Fisherman's Mark does incredible work to support the members of our local and surrounding community with everything from food insecurity to personal care items. This year's donation requests include diapers of any size, baby wipes, and other toiletries. Please join the SHR Music Department on October 30th at 7:00pm for the Music with a Mission Concert!

Q: What makes South Hunterdon a special place to work?

SZ: Since it's such a small school, everyone knows everyone which makes it unique.
AB: Being small makes South a special place to work. Everybody goes above and beyond for the students here. They get very special treatment.
Q: What is the most fulfilling aspect of your job?

SZ:
Getting to know the students and helping them throughout their day.
AB:
By far the most fulfilling aspect of my job is getting to know the students. Since we're not teachers, we have a different type of interaction with them; more social. Also, we are so lucky to have THE BEST BOSS in the building in Mrs. MacKnight. She is a South Hunterdon rock star 24/7.

Q: Is there anything you would like parents or members of the community to know?

SZ:  I'm a local resident and district parent, so this school has a special place in my heart.
AB: This year, it's our mission to get everyone to learn and use the word "vestibule", which is where things are dropped off during the day.

Q: Any fun facts you would like to share about yourself?

AB: Not everybody knows that Mr. Bill and I are married. And that our sister-in-law, Nan Bill, works in the Business Office.

Eagles Insider

The South Hunterdon TV & Media classes have been hard at work to bring this year's first episode of Eagles Insider, a student-produced YouTube program highlighting students, staff and activities. This week's episode features the cross country co-captains, an interview with Ms. Storcella, fire safety and Halloween trivia.

Student production teams collaborate to produce video segments on a variety of topics, including features on sports team captains, student achievements, classroom activities, hallway trivia, teacher insights and more. Students work on deadlines while putting their own creative touches on their work throughout the production process, from researching topics, to writing scripts, recording interviews and footage, and editing their segments in Adobe Premiere. Each team's segment is then incorporated into the broader goal of a ten-minute show in Eagles Insider.

Do you have an idea for a feature we can share via Eagles Insider or the Newsbite? Please contact Melanie LaPlaca (melanie.laplaca@shrsd.org) with more information about your request. We are looking to showcase the positive stories surrounding the unique makeup of South Hunterdon, including students, staff and other members of the community.
