The Dual Enrollment program is an opportunity for students to earn both high school and college credits in South Hunterdon Regional classes taught by our teachers. The program is open to all students meeting satisfactory academic standards and enrolled in one of our eligible courses.

Enrolling in dual enrollment for approved courses ensures that your student obtains college credit for the class. Advanced Placement culminates in the taking of an advanced placement examination. Colleges accept the class for college credit based on the test performance. With Dual Enrollment, the student does not have to score well, or even take the AP test.

Students must maintain a “C” or better to get college credit.

We are partnering with Raritan Valley Community College, The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), Rowan University, Seton Hall University, Stockton University, and William Paterson University.

Most courses are about $100 per credit. This is a significant discount on the class's cost if taken directly at the college/university. The number of credits and more detailed cost information can be found on this course list.

Stockton University and Raritan Valley offer classes for free for students who qualify for Free and Reduced lunch. Additionally, the South Hunterdon Regional School District has committed to paying for one additional course (if needed) to cover the cost of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch.

All students are encouraged to enroll in as many dual enrollment courses as possible. Enrolling in dual enrollment courses does not commit you to attending any school; it just ensures your students' class will appear on a college transcript. Once your student decides where they will attend during their senior year, they can request transcripts from any college/university they completed dual enrollment courses, which can then be forwarded to the university they have committed to attending

If you transfer your credits to another university, no. These courses will be assigned as transfer credits. However, suppose you enroll in one of the institutions for undergraduate education that we partner with and have taken dual enrollment courses with them. In that case, they will become part of your student’s academic records at the college/university.

The college course equivalent can be found on the course list. If you decide to attend a different school in New Jersey, use the NJtransfer.org website to enter the course you are enrolling in and the college you are interested in. For out-of-state schools, we encourage you to contact the school’s admission department. While past practice says many schools will accept college credit from other institutions, South Hunterdon Regional cannot guarantee this.

Most partners require satisfactory academic performance to enroll in the course. Raritan Valley has prerequisites for some classes, such as taking an Accuplacer or scoring an acceptable SAT score before being approved for specific classes. If required, we will let you know and do our best to schedule time for students to take the prerequisites.

Colleges and universities will allow Grade 11 and Grade 12 students to participate in dual enrollment. If you look at our course offerings, most are Grade 11-12 courses. However, we have some electives and other courses that Grade 9-10 students can enroll in and take for dual enrollment.

Besides the highly discounted tuition costs, there are additional benefits. For example, our partner universities will offer trips to their schools so students can take a tour/visit campus. William Paterson University will offer your student conditional acceptance to their university upon completing one dual credit course. * (Yes, if your student takes Biology as dual credit in the first year with William Paterson, they can enter their sophomore year of high school with a college acceptance and at least four college credits).  Another benefit of William Paterson is that if a student takes two classes through dual enrollment and then decides to attend the university as a freshman, they will get $1,000 off their first year's tuition at the university.

* Highly competitive programs, such as nursing, art, and music, are exempt from this because they require additional admission requirements.

This will vary by college/university regarding application, enrollment and payment. We will send information home and update our website, and counselors will visit your student's classes in the early fall. All schools have time to apply/register (you do not have to pay), and then another deadline for payment (usually a bit later after the application deadline). Colleges/Universities may also require parental consent and provide a withdrawal deadline. Colleges/Universities may also offer payment arrangements.
