What is an Athletic Trainer?

As defined by the Strategic Implementation Team of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) in August 2007: Athletic training is practiced by athletic trainers, health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.

What is the Role of an Athletic Trainer?

· Prevention of injury/illness
· Recognition/Evaluation of injury/illness
· Management/Treatment of injury/illness
· Rehabilitation
· Organization & Administration

Education Criteria for National Certification

· College degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum program
· Proof of current Firs Aid Certification or EMT equivalent
· Proof of Basic CPR Certification
· Successful Completion of NATABOC Exam & application
· Clinical Supervision hours (minimum 2 years)

Criteria for State Licensure

· NATABOC Certification
· Meet all State Licensure Requirements
