From October 30-November 1, 2019 South Hunterdon FFA Member, Rebecca Phillips, traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana to represent the New Jersey FFA Association in the National FFA Dairy Cattle Handler Event. Rebecca competed against other FFA members from across the United States and placed Silver in the event.

The Dairy Cattle Handler activity is a part of the Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management Career Development Event (CDE). Handlers demonstrate their showmanship abilities as the judges evaluate the competitors on their poise and calmness around the animals and on their positive and courteous attitudes. This event allows students to demonstrate their understanding of animal husbandry and marketing of animals for agricultural purposes. This event is just one of the many opportunities that students can participate in through the FFA Organization to develop their career and leadership skills.

In addition to the competition, Rebecca also attended the College and Career Show held at the Indiana Convention Center. Here she joined the more than 69,000 FFA members in attendance to talk to college representatives about possible majors to pursue in two and four year institutes as well as network with industry representatives and FFA members from around the Nation.

Congratulations, Rebecca Phillips!
